Council Roundup Economic Development Plan update nears completion

Bellevue's City Council is set to adopt an updated Economic Development Plan in December, showcasing a 39% increase in median household income from 2018 to 2023, surpassing peer cities. Over 10,000 jobs were created between 2020 and 2023, with downtown experiencing significant growth of 4.3 million square feet in office space. The council unanimously approved adjustments to the boundary with Kirkland, ensuring the South Kirkland Park & Ride and the Cross Kirkland Corridor trail are fully under Kirkland's jurisdiction. This adjustment aims to streamline future developments, including the proposed light rail station and transit-oriented infrastructure. The council also enacted new rules for excluding individuals from meetings for violating decorum, extending the exclusion period to 180 days. Additionally, service on advisory boards will now be limited to two consecutive terms. Proclamations were made for Eastside Welcoming Week and Hunger Action Month, highlighting community engagement. Staff will return with draft strategies in October to further support the city's growth while managing risks.
