Council Roundup Wilburton code update and rezone reviewed

During its Tuesday meeting, the Bellevue City Council continued deliberations on the Wilburton Transit-Oriented Development land use code amendment. This amendment, part of the 2024 Wilburton Comprehensive Plan, aims to create new mixed-use districts in a 300-acre area, enhancing the community's vision for Wilburton. Additionally, the council introduced the Safe Speeds Bellevue program, which focuses on evaluating and potentially lowering speed limits on city streets with current limits of 30 mph or more. It is notable that nearly 90% of fatal and serious injury crashes occur on these streets, which comprise only 25% of the total street network. The council tasked staff with outreach efforts and developing an ordinance to lower speed limits along four evaluation corridors.
